Samuel “Sam” O’Mallan, 54, of Wharton Texas, passed away October 21, 2017, at a Houston hospital following a brief illness. He was born on October 18, 1963 in Guam, a son of the late Charles William and Rosa Martinez O’Mallan. Sam was raised in Guam and graduated from high school in Guam. After moving to Texas in 1983 and attending East Texas State University, he married Cheryl Ann Laney in Wharton. Samuel worked at Nan Ya Plastics for many years as a plant operator. He enjoyed most of all loving and spoiling his grandkids and nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed photography, fishing, golf, his computer, watching movies and gaming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carmen D. O’Mallan and brother, Patrick Henry O’Mallan. Sam is survived by his wife, Cheryl Ann Laney O’Mallan of Wharton, step daughters, Julie Garman and husband, Phillip of Wharton, Shannae Chumchal of Lake Jackson, step sons, Douglas Laney and wife, Abbie of Austin, and James Laney and Krystal Zepeda of Lane City, sisters, Ann Marie Roth and husband, Bill, Sharon E. O’Mallan, Rosa P. O’Mallan all of Guam, brothers, James Basil O’Mallan and wife, Anne of Guam, Charles W. O’Mallan and wife, Kandace of Bay City, Michael S. O’Mallan and wife, Josephine of Guam, and Gerard O’Mallan and wife, Lola of CA, sister in law, Macila O’Mallan, step mother, Lena Geraldine O’Mallan and grandchildren, Blake Garman, Carlie Garman, Maci Chumchal and Argo Laney. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 6 till 8pm at Wharton Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, October 30 at 10 a.m. followed by the reading of the obituary at 10:30 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 30 at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton with Father Bob Knippenberg officiating. Following cremation, the Rite of Committal and Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Blake Garman, Douglas Laney, James Laney, Charles William O’Mallan, III, Eian O’Mallan, Gerard O’Mallan, Mike O’Mallan, Basil O’Mallan, and Phillip Garman.
