Albert Wittig, 85, of Freeport, Texas and formerly of Wharton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 26, 2017, at his daughter’s home in Brazoria, Texas. He was born on October 4, 1932 in Wharton, a son of the late Clarence A. Wittig and Frieda Koch Wittig. Albert was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School in 1950. He received a degree from Brazoria County Junior College. Serving our country honorably in the U.S. Army. He married Yvonne Laughlin. She preceded him in death on August 26, 2001. Albert was a fireman for Dow Chemical Co. and he also worked at the Freeport docks. He was a Volunteer Fire Chief for Oyster Creek. He enjoyed hunting and playing bingo and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his church family and was involved in many church activities. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathleen Wittig, infant sister, Selma Wittig, brothers, Leroy and Robert Wittig, sister in law, Anne Wittig. Albert is survived by his daughter, Paula Barton of Brazoria; sons, Wade Wittig of Old Ocean and Michael Wittig of Oyster Creek; sisters, Helen Thomas and husband, John of Houston and Edith Thonsgaard and husband, Dale of Wharton; sister in law, Shirley Wittig; brothers, Leonard Wittig and wife, Lil of Iago, Howard Wittig and, wife, Dolly of Wharton, Hermann Wittig and wife, Linda of Wharton and Raymond Wittig; grandchildren, Albert Wittig III, Amie Schneider and Karl, Kimberly Barton, Jeremy Barton, Frieda Thurman and Kyle, Christopher Wittig and Colton Wittig, great grandchildren Raven Ansley, Hunter Reichert, Ryli Schneider, Hadyn Schneider, Landyn Reichert and Emmaline Thurman, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Revs. Adamson and Lutjen officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, military honors were performed by members of the Wharton American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
