Donna Chmelik, 73, of Wharton, passed away October 29, 2017, at an El Campo hospital. Donna was born on September 22, 1944, in Red Oak, Iowa, to the late George Eisel and Frances Frazen Eisel Phillips. Donna grew up in the Hungerford area and attended schools there. Donna married John Chmelik on December 12, 1986. She enjoyed the water. She would tell her family she wanted to go fishing only to get there and watch them fish, while she enjoyed spending the day close to the water with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers; Leland Eisel and Duane “Shorty” Eisel. Donna is survived by her husband of 30 years, John Chmelik of Wharton; daughter, Bonnie Ash and husband, Jonathan of Naples, Florida; son Steven Border and wife, Lacy of Wharton; sister, Marilyn Keefer and wife, Linda Clark of Arizona; grandchildren, Savage Border and Layla Border; niece, Holly Eisel of El Campo and numerous family and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Mickey Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are John’s nephews. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
