Leroy Grigar, Sr. Leroy Grigar, Sr., 86, of Hungerford passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, in a Wharton care center following a sudden illness. Leroy was born on July 29, 1931 in Wallis, TX to the late Joe Grigar, Sr. and Maudie Belle Mays Grigar. Leroy was raised in the Orchard and Wharton areas and graduated from Wharton High School. On May 6, 1951, he married Doris Klasel in Hungerford. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2004. Leroy worked at Gulf Coast Medical Center in the engineering department for many years. He also was a farmer and rancher. Leroy enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially for deer and geese. Many days you could find him tending his garden. He was a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church in Hungerford, a member of the KJT and SPJST. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Arthur Bayliss, and brothers, Joe Grigar, Jr., Marvin Grigar and Eldridge Grigar. Leroy is survived by his daughter, Dianne Bonds of East Bernard, sons, Larry Grigar and wife, Susan of East Bernard, Leroy Grigar, Jr. and wife, Vanessa of Baytown, and William Grigar and his partner, Deborah Peres of La Porte. Sister, Bernice Pollock of Rosenberg, grandchildren, Eric Head, Amanda Cleveland, Douglas Grigar, Stephen Grigar, Kyle Grigar, Stacey Grigar and Nicholas Grigar and great grandchildren, Reaghan Cleveland, Ty, Coy, Ava, and William Grigar and many dear friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 starting at 5 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St John Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating. The Rite of Christian Burial and committal will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford. Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Grigar, Kyle Grigar, Douglas Grigar, Nicholas Grigar, Dwayne Grigar and Eric Head.
