Janie Miniel Garza, 71, of Wharton passed away on December 11, 2017 at a Sugar Land hospital following a brief illness. She was born on June 18, 1946, to the late Abundio and Isabel Orosco-Escobedo Miniel. Janie was raised in the Wharton area and attended school here. She married Robert Garza on January 30, 1966. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1988. Janie worked a s a homemaker for many years. She enjoyed the simple things in life, mowing the lawn, visiting with her friends and family. Janie is survived by her sons, Jason Garza of Wharton, and Rick Garza and wife, Josie of Wharton, sisters, Sara Cortez of Abeline, Isabel Mata of Wharton, Lucy Mata of Wharton, Virginia Villareal of Wharton, Esther Zavala of Clute and Betty Zavala of Wharton, grandchildren, Brenna, Ricky, Jr., Zachary, Ethan, Mark and Mia and many friends and family. Visitation will begin on Thursday, December 14 at 6pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with a parish rosary recited at 7pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday December 15, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church at 11am in Wharton with Fr. Bob Knippenberg officiating.
