Allen Stavinoha, age 76, of Wharton passed away peacefully on January 9, 2018 in a Hillje nursing home. He was born January 6, 1942 to parents Rudy and Theresa Valenta Stavinoha. Allen began his education at Crescent School and was in the graduating class of 1960. He married Sandra Salas in Wharton on June 20, 1964. He was employed by Dow Chemical at the time. Allen also spent time helping his father farm. Among his occupations, he was a meat inspector, worked at Bay Prairie Aggregate and eventually owned his own business as a welder. Allen also started a welding program at WCJC that he worked in the evenings as an instructor. He donated his time at the WCYF Fairgrounds at Crescent, welding structures during its construction. Six months before their marriage, Allen joined the National Guard and served six years. Allen and Sandra enjoyed spending time with their friends, especially by participating in club dances. Allen was a friend to all and quick to tell a story. He is fondly remembered for his jokes and stories. He enjoyed saltwater fishing and deer hunting. The family enjoyed taking their motorhome to Lake Texana for fishing trips and spending time at the deer lease with other family members and friends. For the past year, Allen and Sandra happily and pleasantly resided at the SPJST Rest Home in Hillje. They enjoyed many visitors, outings, activities and each other. Allen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra of Wharton; daughter, Stephanie Konvicka and husband, Stanley of Boling; sons, Brian Stavinoha of Wharton and Keith Stavinoha of Wharton; sisters Gerry Panza and husband, Sal of Mechanicsburg, PA and Renee Cavazos and husband, Ramon of Boling, as well as numerous family and friends. Allen was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Service will be at Caney Creek Church on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Mickey Reynolds officiating.
