In Loving Memory Of Lillie M. Mathis March 5, 1933 ~ January 18, 2018 Lillie M. “Susie” Mathis 84, of Wharton, Texas passed away peacefully on January 18, 2018 in Wharton. She was born to E.C. and Cassie Kathren (Ruffcorn) Carroll on March 5, 1933 in Mackay, Texas. Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 in the chapel at Wharton Funeral Home with Mickey Reynolds officiating. The family welcomes friends for a time of visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. She loved to go to Dairy Queen with her friends, playing cards, and watching her grandchildren play baseball. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Susie enjoyed cooking for her family, going on vacations and gardening. Left to cherish Susie’s memory is her sons; Everett W. Mathis and wife, Louise, Gary L. Mathis and wife, Vanda, and Michael L. Mathis and wife, Jodi, her grandchildren; Scott Mathis, Jason Mathis, Tim Mathis, Wade Mathis, and Chelsi Mathis. She is also survived by her great-granddaughter, Mila Mathis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willford H. “Mike” Mathis, her sisters; Addie Davis, Beulah Cheene, Ruby Murphree, Rosalee Bier, and Grace Catherine Carroll and by her brothers; Gene Carroll, Harley Carroll, Curtis Carroll, Buddy Carroll, and William George Carroll, as well as many nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be; Scott Mathis, Wade Mathis, Jason Mathis, Clayton Irwin, Warren Yacket, and Johnnie White. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you donate to the American Cancer Society and Houston Hospice in Susie’s name. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
