Mrs. Alma Zahn Buenger of Wharton went to be with our Lord and Savior on February 5, 2018 at 4:28 a.m. She was born to Fred and Matilda Zahn on April 5, 1924. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Lee Buenger and one son, Thomas Gene Buenger as well as her parents and four of her brothers, Alfred Zahn, William "Bill" Zahn, Walter Zahn and Arthur Zahn. Mrs. Buenger has 3 living children: Ann Billings and husband, Tom of Wharton, Daniel Buenger and wife, Bonnie of New Waverly and Sandra Hanger and husband, Dave of Dallas. She has 5 grandchildren: Jeff Buenger of Lecce, Italy, Blaine Buenger and wife, Michele of College Station, Amanda Billings of Houston, David Hanger of Los Angeles, California, and Rachel Billings of Wharton. She also has 3 great grandchildren, Shelby Brady and husband, Sean of Virginia and Jackson Buenger and Harrison Buenger both of College Station. Mrs. Buenger was a stay at home mom and a devoted member in Our Ladies Altar Society at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, TX. She was very active as a room mother at Holy Family Catholic School when her children were in elementary school and was quite proud that she served as the treasurer of the Mothers' Society for this school. She also worked diligently for the Babe Ruth baseball team by helping serve the refreshments at the boys' games. She was a Charter member of Catholic Daughters. Mrs. Buenger was a dedicated wife and mother. To the end, her family surrounded her with love at Houston Hospice. A visitation will be held at Wharton Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Bob Knippenberg officiating. A Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all the doctors and staff at Houston Hospice for the excellent care.
