Adella Jo Morris Adella Jo Morris, age 90, of Wharton, died Saturday, November 24, 2018 at home following a lengthy illness. She was born on July 5, 1928 in Hungerford, a daughter of Frank and Mary Mikel Rachunek. Della attended Hungerford and East Bernard schools, graduating at 16 due to war time circumstances. After graduation, she attended Houston Business College then worked at Union State Bank. She married Bennie Morris on October 29, 1946 in Hungerford. They both worked for Joe’s Chicken Shack before pursuing other employment. After having children, Della became a stay at home mom. Once the children began school, she became the part time bookkeeper for Holy Family, Mt Carmel and St. John Catholic churches. For the next 22 years, she worked for Wharton ISD as an aide first, then in the tax office from which she retired in 1991. Della shared Bennie’s love of sports, being an avid fan of the Houston Rockets and Houston Astros. She played women’s softball in the Wharton area during their first years of marriage as the catcher. Bennie and Della’s favorite times were spent fishing along the coast and they continued to do so until they could no longer go. She also loved family gatherings that always included poker games or dominos. Della was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. John Catholic Church, where she was a member of both altar societies. She was a Catholic Daughter charter member and recently received her 50 year pin. She was also a member of KJZT and received her 75 year pin. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Rothwell of Wharton; sister and brother-in-law, Ollie and Emil Faltisek of Lake Jackson; brothers, Richard Rachunek of Angleton; Ben and Louise Rachunek of Brazoria; and Adolph and Edith Rachunek of Wharton; brother-in-law and wife, John and Margie Morris of Buffalo; and sister-in-law, Shirley Minks of East Bernard; and many adoring nieces and nephews – who lovingly called her Gaga. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Morris and son, Robert Morris. Also sisters, Clara Kostka, Mary Andel, Leona Vasek Clemmons, and brothers, Anton Rachunek, Frank Rachunek, Reverend Henry Rachunek, and Edward Rachunek. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Charles Dwomoh, officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Catholic cemetery in Hungerford. Pallbearers include her nephews Doug Rachunek, Tim Faltisek, Paul Faltisek, Dan Andel, Myron Andel, and Bill Kostka. Honorary pallbearers were nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews of the Rachunek and Morris families. Special thanks go to her niece, Kellye Rachunek, and her family who lovingly shared in caring for her during her last months. Memorial contributions can be made to St. John Catholic Church, Holy Family Catholic Church, Houston Hospice of El Campo, or a charity of personal choice. Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
