Albert Kocurek, 87, of Wharton, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to the late Fred Jim and Lucille Schunka Kocurek. He passed away on June 11, 2018, in a Wharton care center, TX. Albert was raised in the Boling area and attended Boling schools. Albert served our country honorably in the United States Army, earning his Honorable Discharge on July 30, 1956. He married Mabel Bertha DeReese on April 10, 1953 in Wharton. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2013. Albert enjoyed dancing, hunting and gambling. His favorite fishing spot was at Lake Sommerville. Albert worked as an iron worker for most of his career and continued working in the oil field until his retirement. He was known as “a good ole boy”. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Kathy Jo and Tina Louise Kocurek. He is survived by his son, Timothy Kocurek and fiancée Natalie Morris of Ft Worth, daughters, Lisa Kocurek of Arlington and Rebecca Sanders and husband, Bobby of Brazoria, special friend, Geneva Wagner, sisters, Helen Koehler of Wharton, Angie Klimple of Wharton and Kathy Pyka of Winnie, grandchildren, Markie McQueary, Brandon Haynes and Mandy Colunga, great grandchildren, Ciera and Jacob Colunga Visitation will begin on Wednesday, June 13 at 1pm at St Paul Lutheran Church in Wharton with Funeral Services following at 2pm with Rev. Wellman officiating. Following cremation, burial will be at a later date at Wharton Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by members of American Legion Post 87 and VFW post 4474 of Wharton.
