Annie Mae Looper Annie Mae Looper, 95, of Iago, passed peacefully at home on the Home Place Farm on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 with family and friends at her side. She was born on the family farm in Iago to Walter T. and Nevada Abbott Looper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Leila Looper Moers and Brenda Looper Roberson, and brothers Donald E. and Max V. Looper. She was also preceded in death her niece, Laverne Moers Winebrenner and Nephews Don R Looper and John C. Moers. Annie Mae was a lifelong resident of Iago, living on Home Place Farm since a small child. She was a graduate of Boling High School class of 1940. She attended Iago Federated Church her entire life. She accepted Christ as her Savior and joining at a young age. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and served as secretary to the board for decades, retiring just last year. Upon the death of her father in 1927, Annie Mae shared in the responsibilities of running the family dairy, cooking and keeping the house and yard for the family and for boarders who worked in the Sulphur and oil field during the Boling boom days. As a teenager, she began working at the ten-cent store in Boling. In 1946, she was hired by Dr. Rugeley in Blasingame to be their bookkeeper where she headed the bookkeeping office for 41 years beginning with handwritten paper ledgers, all the way through the early computer age, retiring in 1987. She loved working in her flower gardens, picking up pecans, sewing and decorating, and spending time with family, which included hosting many family reunions at the Home Place. Annie Mae is survived by nieces, Sarah Moers Wiggins, Martha Roberson Bryan, Jane Looper Gray, and Georgia Looper Hobbins, as well as nephews Walter Roberson, Michael Roberson and David Looper as well as 4 more generations numbering over 100. The visitation will be at 2 pm Sunday, October 21st at Iago Federated Church, followed by a funeral service. Burial will be at Wharton City Cemetery. Rev. Bob Hobbins and Rev. Oliver Southall will officiate. Memorials may be made to Iago Federated Church, Houston Hospice- El Campo, or Wharton City Cemetery.
