Arthur W. Newlin, Jr. (known as "Captain Jack"), age 84, of Richmond, Texas passed away peacefully on April 24, 2018 at the Barton House Center in Sugar Land, Texas. Jack was born on February 20, 1934 in Wharton, Texas to the late Arthur William Newlin, Sr. and Arnita Henrietta Josephine Maerz Newlin. Jack was raised in the Wharton area and graduated from Wharton High School. In 1956 he graduated from Texas A&M University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and meteorology. He then served our country honorable in the United States Air Force. He worked for Houston Lighting and Power Company as an engineer for many years. After retirement he traveled the world. Jack had a passion for different cultures and was always inspired by the beauty of the world. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Ross Newlin, and two of his children Brenda Lee Newlin and Michael Ross Newlin. Jack is survived by his children Teresa Gay Young and husband Nathan Cole of Richmond; Lynn Michele Foreman and husband James Edward of Houston; and Arthur W. Newlin, III of Boling; sisters Margaret Ellen McLaughlin and husband Hugh Andrew; Marie Ann Smith; and Diana Elizabeth Sherman and husband Carroll LeeRoy; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 10:30 am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers will be Jack's son-in-laws James Edward Foreman and Nathan Cole Young; and grandsons Nathan Cole Young II, James Michael Foreman, Michael Ross Newlin II, and James William Foreman.
