In Loving Memory of Augustina M. Valdez May 28, 1932 ~ April 15, 2018        Augustina M. Valdez, 85, of Hungerford, TX passed away Sunday morning, April 15, 2018 at her home in Hungerford. She was born on May 28, 1932 in Wharton, Texas to the late Bernadino and Hermina Salas Medrano.        Augustina was raised in Wharton and attended Wharton schools. She married Jasper Valdez in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1999 following 50 years of marriage. She worked as a cook at Joe’s Café in Hungerford for many years and was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed her tending her flower beds, loved playing with her grandchildren, and cooking for family gatherings. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Mike Medrano and Isidro Medrano.        She is survived by her daughters, Janie Gonzales and husband Cirildo of Hungerford, Diane Mendiola and Michael Ricarte, Jr. of Wharton, Linda Orta and husband, Johnnie of Hungerford and son, Ernest Valdez and wife, Molly of Eagle Lake, 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.        The Family would like to extend a special thanks to Laura Garcia, Margie Wilkerson and the Staff of Houston Hospice, El Campo for their loving care.        Visitation will be held on Thursday morning April 19, 2018 at St Johns’ Catholic Church in Hungerford after 9am with a parish rosary recited at 930 am and Funeral Mass celebrated by Father Charles Dwomow at 10 am. The Rite of Committal and Burial will be in St John Cemetery in Hungerford.      Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Gonzales, Johnnie Orta, Jr., Roy Mendiola, Jr., Bruce Lee Mendiola, Scott Mendiola, Duran Mendiola, Jasper Valdez, III, and Pedro DeLaGarza.   Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.  Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
