Benjamin Robert Kubicek, affectionately known as “Mr. Bennie”, went home to his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2021.
Mr. Bennie was born November 11, 1923, in Moulton, TX, to John and Clara Kubicek. He left school in the 3rd grade to help work on the family farm. When he was 17, he walked to Flatonia and caught a bus to East Bernard, TX seeking a job as a rice field worker. However, as fate would have it, he landed a job at Lily Bottling works.
Mr. Bennie left East Bernard to serve our Country during WWII as a cook in the United States Navy. Upon returning to East Bernard, he resumed his job at the bottling company. In 1942, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Sulak and they had two sons. In 1958, he and his wife bought the bottling company, which became known as East Bernard Beverages. He also began selling fireworks, which became a family tradition.
Mr. Bennie was a member of the American Legion, KJT, SPJST, VFW and local church council. He was on the Riverside Hall Dance committee for 21 years in which he started the Big Three Polka Dance.
He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Kubicek and wife, Cindy of East Bernard and Gary Kubicek; five grandkids, Justin, Kaylan, Lacey, Myles and Kole and their spouses and fiancées ; great grandkids, Carson, Carly, Hays, Ridge, Luke, Greyson, Easton and Layton. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn and his great grandson, Hayden Beeson.
In lieu of flowers, enjoy a good meal or buy a “3 pick”, as Mr. Bennie would say. Donations can be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard or any SMA foundation.
Visitation will start at Friday, February 12, 2021 at 9 a.m. at Holy cross Catholic Church in East Bernard followed by a celebration of Mass at 10 a.m. with Father Stephen Vacek officiating. Inurnment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be John Beeson, John Kopycinski, Justin Kubicek, Kole Kubicek and Myles Kubicek
