Bennie Richard Chumchal

February 16, 1930 — August 28, 2018

Bennie Richard Chumchal, 88, of Wharton, TX went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 28, 2018 at Garden Villa in El Campo, TX.  He passed away peacefully with his family by his side.  Bennie was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.  “Didda”, as his daughters called him, was a devoted husband, loving father, respected grandfather, and caring great grandfather like no other could be.    Bennie’s story started when he was born on February 16, 1930 in Hungerford, TX to the late Joe Chumchal and Mary Knesek Chumchal.  Bennie attended schools in Hungerford and East Bernard.  On June 6, 1950, he married his “Honey”, Anna Louise Ullmann, and together they were blessed with 5 daughters.  He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a lineman, installer, and repairman and retired in 1980.  Bennie loved his family and always put them first.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, and, as he got older, he enjoyed the beauty of nature.  Bennie and Anna had many happy days on their Colorado River bank enjoying their cattle, camping out, and playing volleyball with family and friends. Every year he planted his garden and enjoyed sharing his bounty of peaches and vegetables with his family and friends.  Bennie also loved his pets very much, especially his dogs and his goose, “Gander”. He enjoyed going to BJ’s for coffee with the guys and to catch up on the latest news.  Bennie is preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law:  Jody Polak; sister:  Martha Janik; brothers:  Eddie Chumchal, Joe Chumchal, Jr., and Pete Chumchal; and great grandson:  Lane Houston Joines.   Bennie is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna Chumchal of Wharton;  daughters:  Darline Polak of East Bernard, Peggy Sherrill and husband, Bill of Wharton, Marilyn Wright and husband, Bobby of Alvin, Elaine Koudela and husband, Jerome of El Campo, and Blanche Joines and husband, Jon of Wharton; sister:  Mary Kubena of Edna;  brothers:  Louie Chumchal of Hungerford and Daniel Chumchal of Wharton;  grandchildren:  Joey Polak, Patrick Polak, Billie-Jean Murphy, Kaylyn Stade, Katrina Socha, Keith Koudela, Clint Joines, Matt Joines, and Christine Reese;  25 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.   The Viewing will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 starting at 9:00 am at the Wharton Funeral Home. The Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 am with Pastor John Cox officiating.  Burial will follow at the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bennie’s grandsons:  Joey Polak, Patrick Polak, Clint Joines, Matt Joines, Keith Koudela, and great grandson: Brock Polak.  Honorary pallbearers will be Bennie’s son-in-laws:  Bill Sherrill, Bobby Wright, Jerome Koudela, and Jon Joines.   Funeral Services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.  Fond memories and words of condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
