Betty Jo Hammock

Betty Jo Hammock, 84, of Wharton, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at a long-term care center following a brief illness.  She was born on April 20, 1935 in Matagorda to the late Jack Michael and Clara Conner.

Betty was raised in the Matagorda and attended Matagorda Schools before graduating from Bay City High School.  She married Claudie Rea Hammock in March 1954 in Matagorda, he preceded her in death on June 14, 2018.   Betty worked at Wharton County Junior College as a bookkeeper for many years in the billing and accounts payable department.  She enjoyed her garden and playing with her dogs.  Many hours were spent watching the and listening to the many birds near her home.

She is survived by her daughters: Karen Kay Curtiss and husband, David of Corpus Christi and Kathy Sue Lee and husband, Bobby of Houston, her grandchildren, Amy Cantu, Clayton Lee, Matthew Curtiss, Meagan McClenden and Kelly Curtiss and great grandchildren, Jacob, Grant, Decker and Amelia and numerous friends.

Visitation will begin on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 9 am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with funeral services starting at 11am with Rev. Kelly Krone officiating.  Burial will be in Matagorda Cemetery in Matagorda.
