Billie was born in Terrell, Texas, the youngest of five children, to Mr. and Mrs. T. J. “Jeff” Hale. She lived with her family in Mineola, Texas before moving to Wharton, and attending public schools in Wharton, however, she finished high school in Victoria, Texas while her father was transferred there to teach safety for the Texas Highway Dept. After her family moved back to Wharton, and after the war, she met and married Wesley R. “Dick” Jones. They had two wonderful children, Wes and Vicki. She worked for the City Secretary at Wharton City Hall for twelve years, until she went to work for Wharton High School as a TA for 23 years, so she could have the same working hours and vacation time as her student children, Wes and Vicki. She worked for WISD until her retirement in 1993. Her mother and father had a very positive influence on her life. You can hear her almost daily saying “My daddy did this”, or “My Momma said that”. She enjoyed visiting with many of her “senior citizen” friends at Dairy Queen. She is preceeded in death by her father, T. J. “Jeff” Hale (the first municipal Judge in Wharton), and by her mother, Cynthia Lou Allen Hale (a LVN for many years in Wharton). She is also preceeded by all her siblings, two brothers and two sisters and their spouses. She was also preceeded by the love of her life, her husband, Dick Jones, who passed away after retiring from the Postal Service in Wharton. She is survived by many friends and family. She leaves her daughter, Vicki and husband, Mike, Her son, Wes, and his wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Julie and Eddie, Lyndi and Mark, Ryan and Andrea, Kynsie and Mark, and eight great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Thursday October 18that 1pm at Wharton City Cemetery.
