Charles Schroeder, Jr., 85, of Wharton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at his residence. He was born on July 3, 1939, in East Bernard, Texas to the late Charles and Metha Ludwig Schroeder.

 Charlie was raised in the East Bernard area and graduated from East Bernard High School. He was also a “Star” athlete. He played baseball, basketball and football. He was invited to attend 5 colleges. While in college he excelled in football. The Dallas Morning news wrote a full newspaper page about him and all his accomplishments. He finished his education at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Charlie later served in the United States Army, earning an honorable discharge on April 24, 1964. Charlie worked for Tenneco Gas Pipeline for many years, retiring in 1997. He married Eva Dale Melancon Hlavinka on October 15, 1988. They celebrated 36 years together this year. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, his cattle, and tinkering with things.

 He was a wonderful man with a shy, quiet, and gentle soul. Anyone who knew him would agree! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Chester, Clifford and Marvin Schroeder. He was also preceded in death by his stepson, Clay Hlavinka. Charlie is survived by wife, Eva Dale Schroeder, stepdaughter, LaCricia Hlavinka of Houston, stepson, Carl Hlavinka and wife, Mildred of Burr, step daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hlavinka of Wharton, brother, RJ Schroeder, grandchildren, Bryan Hlavinka, Kyle Hlavinka, Marissa Hlavinka, Lance Hlavinka, Kindra (Hlavinka) Rheinschmidt and Angelique Hlavinka-Maclin and great grandchildren, James, Layla and Wrenly. He will be greatly missed.

 Private graveside services are set for:

 2 pm Friday, December 27, 2024, at St John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hungerford.
