Charlotte Ruth Long

Charlotte Long, 76, of Wharton, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at a Hillje nursing center. She was born on January 14, 1949, in Orange, Texas. Charlotte retired from Southwestern Bell after 35 years of service, beginning her career as a switchboard operator.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Orsak, and her brother, Herschel Williamson.

Charlotte was a devoted wife and mother, survived by her husband, Carl Long of 50 years, and her sons, Clinton Long and his wife, Sara of Vacherie, Louisiana, and Clayton Long and his wife, Alma of Needville, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Fink of El Campo, and Donna Davis of LaBelle, Florida.

Affectionately known as Nonnie, Charlotte was known for her loving and sweet nature, especially to her grandchildren: Travis Long, Erin Hamby, Tayler Spinks, Garrett Long, Clay Long, Ethan Long and Landon Long, she was also blessed with five great grandchildren.

Charlotte enjoyed embroidery for many years and cherished sharing a cold coke with several friends.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends who will remember her fondly for her kindness and warmth.

Memorial services for Charlotte Long will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 1 pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home, visitation with the family begins at 12 noon.
