Charlyne Jane Labay Charlyne Labay, 87, of East Bernard, passed away Tuesday evening, December 4, 2018 at an Eagle Lake nursing center. She was born on April 6, 1931 in El Campo, Texas, a daughter of the late Frank and Cecilia Orsak Dressler. Charlyne was raised in the El Campo area and graduated from El Campo High School. In November 1960, she married Joseph Charles Labay in El Campo. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2015. Charlyne enjoyed reading mystery books, being a cat lover, watching her soap operas, and after mowing the lawn, refreshing herself with a good beer. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard and a member of the El Campo Catholic Daughters of America. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ted Dressler, George Dressler, Ed Dressler, and Jake Dressler, sisters, Vlasta Halmicek, Bertha Kunetka, Lillian Heller and Dolores Sliva and grandson, Joseph Michael Blahuta. She is survived by her daughters, Melisa Labay Sliva and husband, David of East Bernard and Heather Labay Blahuta and husband, Bryan of East Bernard, grandson, Chris Blahuta, sisters, Lorraine Kana of El Campo and Janie Labay of Hamshire and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. Following cremation, funeral services will be Thursday, December 13th, in Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Visitation will begin at 1pm, rosary at 1:30 pm., and Mass at 2 pm. Rev. Mat Kessler will be the officiant. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in East Bernard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or SPOT. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
