Claudie Rea Hammock

Claudie Rea Hammock   Rea Hammock, 89, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018. He was born on February 25, 1929 in Carthage, Texas to the late Obie and Ruby Chadwick Hammock.   Rea was raised in the Bay City area and attended school there. He served our country honorably in the United States Marines Corps. He married Betty Conner in March 1954 in Matagorda. Following a move to Wharton in 1963, Rea continued his career in home construction in the Wharton area. Rea also worked for Wharton County Junior College, where he retired from the Maintenance Department. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, working outdoors, and hunting.   Rea is survived by his wife, Betty Hammock of Wharton, daughters, Karen Curtiss and husband, David of Corpus Christi, and Kathy Lee and husband, Bobby of Highlands, grandchildren, Amy Cantu, Clayton Lee, Matthew Curtiss, Megan McClendon and Kelly Curtiss, along with great grandchildren, Jacob, Grant, Decker and Amelia and many members of extended family.   Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Kelly Krone officiating. Burial, with Military Honors provided by members of the Wharton American Legion Post 87 and VFW Post 4474, was conducted in Wharton Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers will be David Curtiss, Bobby Lee, Matthew Curtiss, Clayton Lee, Rex McClendon and Kelly Curtiss with Honorary Pallbearers, Bill Henderson and Mac Simons.     Services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.  Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com
