Cynthia Dianne Kielman, 79, of Wharton, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on December 11, 1945, in Wharton, Texas, to the late Elvin and Annabelle (Hill) Whiddon.
Dianne grew up in Wharton as an only child, cherished by her parents. After graduating from Wharton High School, she attended Wharton County Junior College before continuing her education at Southwest Texas State.
Before graduating, she married her childhood crush, Ronnie Kielman, on February 28, 1969. They settled in Wharton, raising their two children, Shelly and Brian. In the early years, Dianne devoted herself to being a loving mother and homemaker.
In 1978, she embarked on what would become a 32-year career at Wharton County Junior College, where she discovered her true passion—helping others achieve their educational goals. A significant portion of that time was spent as a program coordinator for the JTPA (later Perkins) program where she guided countless students toward vocational degrees and on to sustainable careers. More than just providing financial assistance, Dianne was a source of unwavering encouragement, offering a compassionate ear and support when her students faced challenges.
Education was always a priority for Dianne, and in 1992, she returned to college to complete what she had started years before. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1994 and later achieved a master’s degree in counseling and guidance from the University of Houston-Victoria in 2003.
In 1993, Dianne was joyfully reunited with her birth daughter, Allison. The two formed a beautiful bond, connecting over their shared love of the arts.
Music was a lifelong passion for Dianne, and it was a constant presence in her home. She adored all genres, but Elvis and George Strait held a special place in her heart. She even made a memorable trip to Graceland to celebrate Elvis' birthday. Whether driving around town with the radio turned up or sharing her love of music with her children and grandchildren, her enthusiasm for melodies and lyrics was infectious.
Above all, Dianne found her greatest joy in her role as "Nana." She was a devoted grandmother who took every opportunity to shower her grandkids with love—whether it was making her famous homemade waffles, cheering them on from the sidelines, celebrating their unique talents or taking them on countless trips through the McDonalds drive thru. To her, each of them was truly special, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
A proud baby boomer, Dianne loved reminiscing about the historical moments she witnessed. Her mantra was to "live in the moment," and she embraced life wholeheartedly—whether embarking on new adventures, sharing laughter with friends, or enjoying a margarita at Los Cucos. Her warmth, humor, and boisterous laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Dianne is survived by her daughter, Shelly Janac, and husband Keith of College Station; son, Brian Kielman, and wife Jonica of Wharton; and daughter, Allison Smith, and wife Kate of Austin. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Jordan Ferrell and husband Jonathan Villasana, Riley Ferrell, Thomas Kielman and partner Shelby Vacek, Dillon and Carly Jo Janac, and Morgan and Myles Kielman. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Haisley Ferrell, Jaxson Villasana, and Sunnie Jo Kielman.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Dianne's life was one filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and an indelible impact on the lives she touched.
