At the age of 18 he was drafted into the Army during World War II where he received army training at Camp Walters near Mineral Wells, TX. In 1945 after training, he was on a ship headed to the Asiatic Pacific Theater. After being in Japan a short time, he went to serve in the Korean Conflict. He served our country proudly in WWII. He was a Guard Patrolman and Sharpshooter with an M1. He received an honorable discharge on December 30, 1946 as a Sergeant. He was awarded a World War II Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal. After being discharged, he returned home to help his father on the farm. He worked for George Brown Lease Service in addition to farming cotton. Later, he worked for Texas Gulf Sulphur Company until his retirement in 1988. On December 23, 1956, he married the love of his life, Sara Flores, of Wharton. Together they raised five children. He is survived by his wife Sara, his five children, Noah, Ruben and wife Jan Lopez, Lydia Reyna and husband Julian, Gilbert, and Joel and wife Carrie Lopez, his six grandchildren Joseph Lopez, Laura Reyna, Katie Reyna, Monica Reyna, Sara Lopez, Jared Lopez, one brother George Lopez, and numerous nieces and nephews.
