Darlene Frances Garza Darlene Garza, age 60, of Wharton passed away peacefully on November 22, 2018 at her residence following a lengthy illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 5, 1958 to Martha Wendel Janik and the late Daniel August Janik in Wharton. Darlene was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School in 1975. She later attended Wharton County Junior College. In July 1975, she began her career as a medical transcriptionist with Rugley Blasingame Clinic later South Texas Medical Clinic and finally, Memorial Hermann Medical Clinic. Darlene married Leo Garza on June 20, 1981 in Wharton. She was known as an animal lover, avid supporter of the Texans and Cowboys, enjoyed taking walks, being with family, watching Wheel of Fortune and was addicted to The Young and the Restless. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. In addition to her father, Daniel Janik, Sr., she was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Janik, Jr., step father, Edward Moritz, Jr., and nephew, Adam Moritz. Darlene is survived by her husband of 37 years, Leo Garza of Wharton, mother, Martha Janik Moritz of Wharton, sons, Jake Anthony Garza and wife, Kim of New Taiton and Justin Daniel Garza of Wharton, granddaughter, Stella Frances Garza of Wharton, sister, Debbie Leazar and husband, David of Bay City, brothers, Donald Janik and wife, Leanna of Wharton, Dale Janik and wife, Heather of Wharton, step brothers, Gary Moritz and wife, Rhonda of Boerne and Dennis Moritz of Alaska, sister in law, Mary Jo Janik of Katy, Uncle Herbert Wendel and wife, Rosie, Darlene’s’ sisters in law, Janie Gonzales and husband, Daniel, Lupe Quintanilla and husband, Junior, and Lillie Vasquez and husband, Raymond and brother in law, David Garza, Jr. along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening after 6pm, at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Monday, November 26, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton by Father Bob Knippenberg. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers, were Steve Pickering, Derek Leazar, Tim Laird, Anthony Janik, Rene Guevara and Royce Guevara.
