DeVoy Shaw

August 8, 1936 — January 18, 2021

DeVoy Shaw, age 84, of Boling, Texas, who was a believer in the Lord, Jesus Christ, went to be with his Heavenly Father on January 18, 2021. He was born in Bay City, Texas, on August 8, 1936, to Melvin Herbert Shaw and Mary Eleise Hodge Shaw.

DeVoy was raised in Pledger, Texas, and graduated from Boling High School with the Class of 1956. Some of his favorite memories from his high school days were the times shared with classmates who became lifelong friends. He was involved in athletics and was a member of the Bulldogs football team that went to the playoffs. He excelled in track and participated in the state meet in the low hurdles and pole vault.

After high school, DeVoy attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, where he met his future wife, Sandra Jean McKim. They were married at the First Methodist Church in Edcouch, Texas, on his 23rd birthday in 1959.

DeVoy was a lifelong resident of the area where he worked various trade jobs and met the challenges. He always said, "I can figure it out." And he usually did! His last job before retiring in 1998 was with Texas Gulf Sulphur Company. While maintaining full-time employment, DeVoy also tended to his own grass farm for many years and later enjoyed his lifetime dream of raising cattle.

DeVoy was an active member of Iago Federated Church where he enjoyed using his skills to help maintain the church building and lawn. He served many years on the Church Board.

He had a variety of interests including attending his grandchildren's sporting, livestock, and school activities.  He enjoyed golfing and always had an interest in learning how to do new things. He was also passionate about farming and ranching. Each year, he looked forward to attending the large gathering of Shaws at the family reunion.

DeVoy was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Herbert Shaw and Mary Eleise Hodge Shaw, a brother, Melvin Herbert Shaw, Jr., and a sister, Bettye Louise Shaw Fawcett.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra Jean Shaw of Boling, daughters, Diedre Williams of Pilot Point, Sandie Jones (David) of New Caney, and Laura Bohne (Derek) of Keller, who all loved him dearly.

DeVoy is also survived by seven grandchildren, Whitney Crossland (Chance), Tanner Williams, Jason Jones (Rebecca), Jessica Jones (Joey), Jordan Jones, Collin Bohne (Braunwyn), and Kevin Bohne; and four great grandchildren, Tatum and Teagan Crossland and Hannah and Caleb Jones.

Other survivors include Uncle Orville Shaw (Dodie), Aunt Mary Alice Shaw Reid, brother-in-law Maurice Fawcett, sister-in-law Joy McKim Pearson, nieces Diana Lee, Elizabeth Carson, June Chapman, and nephews Gene Fawcett and Joel Pearson, Jr., as well as a host of cousins.

Pallbearers are Tanner Williams, Jason Jones, Jordan Jones, Collin Bohne, Kevin Bohne, Chance Crossland, Joey Ash, David Jones, and Derek Bohne.

Honorary pallbearers are Gene Fawcett, Joel Pearson, Jr., his Shaw and Hodge cousins, his Iago Federated Church Family, and his neighbors.
