Dorothy Alice Beck Mrs. Dorothy Alice Huvar Beck, age 96, of Wharton, died Saturday night, December 1, 2018 in a McKinney Memory Care Center. She was born on November 6, 1922 in El Campo, Texas, the daughter of Cyril Frederick Huvar Sr. and Nona Vera Frnka Huvar. Dorothy attended El Campo High School before attending Cosmetology School in Houston. She lived in Wharton County most of her life. Dorothy married her loving husband, Harry Beck, on September 26, 1951 and went on to have three wonderful children together. The two were married for 49 years until Harry’s passing on November 20, 2000. Dorothy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Wharton and worked at their Child Development Center (CDC) from 1980-2011, retiring at the age of 89. She cooked lunches for the children at the CDC for 31 years and personally baked birthday cakes for hundreds of children throughout her time at CDC. Dorothy lived a long and full life. She loved the Lord, loved her family and friends, and loved the people around her as well. She enjoyed serving others and was a blessing to many. Dorothy was a huge fan of the Houston Astros, Bluebell ice cream, and Hinze’s BBQ. She also made the world’s best mashed potatoes.Dorothy was a very caring person, a joy to be around, and will be greatly missed. Dorothy is survived by her children, Daughter and Son-in-law: Elaine & Orval Bonds of Clifton, VA; Sons and Daughters-in-law: Norman & Elaine Beck of Prosper, TX; Robert & Tammy Beck of Lincoln, NE; Sister: Grace Nixon; Nine grandchildren and their spouses: Stephen & Terry Bonds, David & Becca Bonds, Carol Beck, Stephanie Beck, Jeff & Anamarie Simmons, Drew Simmons, Amy Simmons, Danny Beck, and Hannah Beck; and Four great-grandchildren: Kaiden, Brayden, Grayson, and Elora, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded by her husband, Harry Beck, as well as her brother, Cy Huvar. Visitation will begin on Saturday at 1pm at First Baptist Church in Wharton with funeral services following at 2pm at the Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Dorothy loved flowers, and they are appreciated, but for those desiring, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church Child Development Center.
