Fernando Salais, Jr., 86, of Wharton, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born on April 28, 1934 in Houston, Texas to the late Fernando, Sr. and Porfiria Hernandez Salais.
Fernando was raised in Houston and attended school there. He married Juanita Hernandez on February 20, 1970 in Houston. She preceded him in death on November 11, 2018. He later married Rebecca Gonzales on July 11, 2020 in Wharton. Fernando enjoyed working for the Houston ISD as a supervisor of the Custodial Department for over 38 years. He loved to go fishing, and traveling with his family, mostly he enjoyed a nice drink with close friends and family. In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Frank Salais.
Fernando is survived by his wife, Rebecca Salais of Wharton, daughter, Elizabeth Castillo and husband, Alfred of Houston and sons, Fernando Salais of Wharton and Mark Salais and partner, James Lunsford of Richmond, sisters, Mary Salais of Bay City and Maggie Rodriguez of Conroe, granddaughters, Monica Castillo and Michelle Westberry and precious great grandchildren, Amanda Castillo and Marina Martinez.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday after 5pm at Wharton Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Wharton Funeral Home at 10 am with Deacon David Valdez officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
