Genaro Castro, Sr., 91, of Wharton, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at a Sugar Land hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born on September 19, 1926 to Francisco and Paula Salazar Castro in Moulton, TX. He was member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. He enjoyed listening to music, gardening and sitting outside on his porch. He was preceded in death by his wife: Juanita Castro, parents Frank and Paula Castro and sister, Frances Trevino. Survivors include: daughters: Guadalupe Carrasco of Ganado, Paula Salazar of Wharton, Mary Rose Castro of Richmond, Ernestina Goldson of Wharton, Santos Castro of Houston, Cecelia Cobb of Sour Lake, Teresa Mata of Houston, Mary Jane Alfaro of Houston, and Gracie Garcia of Houston; sons: Felipe Castro of El Campo, Eusebio Castro of Wharton, Pascual Castro of Wharton, and Genaro Castro Jr. of Hungerford; sisters: Andrea Davila of Ohio , Maria Gomez of Wharton, Margaret Castro of Wharton, Catherina Perez of Amarillo; brothers, Estefano Castro of Houston, Hilario Castro of Houston, Juan Castro of Wharton; 37 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 21 great, great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018 starting a 5 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father Antonio Perez officiating. A Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
