Gumesindo Gaona Gumesindo Gaona, 86, of Wharton, was born in Wharton, Texas to parents, Toribio and Rita Rodriguez Gaona. He passed away on May 31, 2018, in Richmond, TX. Gumesindo was raised in the Wharton area and attended Crescent schools. He married Maria Ignacia Cruz on April 27, 1953 in Wharton. He enjoyed hunting and sports. In his early years, he was known as an accomplished boxer. His favorite pastime was baseball. He loved playing, coaching and watching baseball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolina Gaona, son, Alfred Gaona, 3 infant children, sister, Margaret Rodriguez, brothers, Johnny Gaona, Sixto Gaona, Jerry Gaona, Marin Gaona, Jr. and Jose Angel Gaona. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mary Gaona of Wharton, daughters, Mary Helen Robles and husband, Victor of Victoria, Irma Gaona of Rosenberg, Patricia Gaona and fiancée Charles Emmons of Needville, and Alicia Gaona of Wharton, sons, Pete Gaona and wife, Ileana of Victoria, Rick Gaona and wife, Elvira of Laredo, Ruben Gaona and wife, Irma of Wharton, Oscar Gaona of Port Lavaca and Jimmy Gaona of Wharton, sister, Lupe Ramos and husband, David of Wharton, 23 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and numerous other children who knew him as Grandpa Taro. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10 am at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Cremation will follow, with burial at a later date at Glen Flora Cemetery in Crescent.
