Irene Matthys

Irene Matthys, 99, of Wharton and formerly of Houston passed away at a Wharton nursing center following a lengthy illness on September 17, 2020.  She was born on January 26, 1921 in Wharton, Tx to the late Otto and Helen Kluck Matthys.

Irene was raised in the Wharton area and attended Crescent Schools. She later moved to the Houston and for most of her life worked as an office manager. She enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Arnold Matthys, sisters, Helen McGee and Alma Matthys and brothers, Lother Matthys and Herman Matthys.

She is survived by her brother Richard Matthys of Lawton Oklahoma, and many friends and family.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 10 am at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton with her minister, Pastor Mark Wiesenborn officiating.
