Jack Richard Koenig, age 89, joined our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. He was born on January 20, 1929 in Waelder, Texas to Earnest and Mary Ann Koenig. He spent most of his childhood years in the Waelder/Schulenberg area and eventually migrated to Wharton in his teenage years. As a very young man, he worked as a roughneck in the oil field in locations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Louisiana. On March 20, 1950, he went to work for Texas Gulf Sulphur Company in the field production department until his retirement in 1988. During his employment at TGS he met his wife, Midge, who was also employed by the company as a nurse at the Newgulf hospital. Jack and Midge were married for 53 years which came to an end following her death in 2004. Jack is survived by his two sons, Jack Richard II and David Scott, daughters-in-law, Sally and Becky, grandchildren, Jay, Jamie, Jeffrey, Kyle, Holly, and Tony, great grandchildren, Jordan, Craig, Leah, Mason, Kiley, Faith, Hope, Morgan, Bridger, Aubrey, Sadie, Nick, Brooke, and Michael, and special companion and friend, Mrs. Mary Ann Hensley. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the excellent care provided by numerous caregivers as Jack began and completed his journey home. Services for Jack will be held at the Wharton Funeral Home on Saturday, October 6that 11:00 am.
