Joyce Katherine Dusek

Joyce Katherine Meyers Barnes Dusek   Joyce Katherine Meyers Barnes Dusek of East Bernard, Texas was born in Milford, Iowa on April 14, 1937.  Her parents were John Henry Meyers and Winifred Adelaide Delaney Meyers.  She died on May 24, 2018 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.   Joyce graduated from St. Scholastics Academy in Canon City, Colorado.  She went on to graduate from the University of San Diego Mercy College of Nursing in California, which enabled her to pursue a long career as a registered nurse. In addition to working in endocrinology, telemetry, home health and in an industrial setting, she also spent part of her professional life in teaching.  Both of her sisters were also RNs.  She was also a Girl Scout leader for her daughters and Team Mother for her sons.  She was active in Catholic Daughters organization and a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound and disabled.  She enjoyed volunteering for the annual Holy Cross Church Bazaar.  She loved reading, Sudoku, oil painting, homemaking and especially watching the Houston Texans games.  Her life revolved around her husband and family.  She enjoyed making cookies and brownies for her grandchildren and attending their activities.   She was an extremely caring woman and her compassion embraced not just her fellow man but all living things.  She will be remembered for her jovial personality, engaging smile and sense of humor in spite of the many illnesses and hospitalizations during the past several years.   She is survived by her loving husband, Sylvester Dusek; daughters Debbie Nork and husband, Tom and Valerie Cone and husband, Robert ; sons, Brian Barnes, Steve Barnes and wife, Lisa; stepchildren, Gene Dusek and wife, Rhonda, Sharon Sebesta and husband, Ronnie, Janice Carston and husband, Ronnie, Darlene Wieghat and husband, Rodney; grandchildren, Jim Nork, Alex Nork, John Nork, Abbey Barnes, Bryce Barnes, Eric Barnes, Rachel Barnes, Matthew and Carrie Sebesta, Christopher and Jessica Sebesta, Rhett and Andrea Wieghet, Reed Wieghat and Taylor and Lu Dusek; great-grandchildren, Astrid Barnes, Joshua Sebesta, Grayson Wieghat and Carsen English.   She was preceded in death by her parents, twin brother Jay Meyers, sisters, Mary Alice Hungate, Helen Leehey and brother, Jack Meyers.   Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard.  A Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:30 led by Catholic Daughters.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Don.  The rite of committal and entombment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in East Bernard.   Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.  Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com
