Juanita H. Salais, 81, of Wharton, TX passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family in Wharton following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 24, 1937 in Newgulf Texas to the late Apolino and Augustina Alvarado Hernandez. Juanita was raised in the Newgulf area and attended Boling schools. She married Fernando Salais, Jr. on February 20, 1970 in Houston. Juanita worked for many years in the Texas Medical Center as a Pharmacy Technician and later in the Aldine ISD as a Teacher Aide. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, traveling to the casino, being with her friends and family and loved her dogs and cat. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Isabel Mendoza and Herlinda Hernandez and brothers, Marcelino Hernandez and Rey Hernandez. Juanita is survived by her husband, Fernando Salais, Jr. of Wharton, sons, Fernando Hernandez of Wharton and Martin Salais of Rosenberg, and step daughter, Elizabeth Castillo and husband, Alfred of Houston, sisters, Santos Gonzales and Lupe Maldonado and husband, Juan, all of Wharton, grandchildren, Monica Castillo and Michelle Westberry, and great grandchildren, Amanda Castillo and Marina Martinez. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home after 6pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 2pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon David Valdez officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Serving as pallbearers will be Ray Gonzales, Kevin Westbury, Tony Martinez, Ruben Martinez, Johnnie Gonzales, Jr., and James Lunsford.
