In Loving Memory Of Judith Marie Sassin August 25, 1917 ~ February 28, 2018 Judith Marie Sassin, 100, of Wharton, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Oak Bend Hospital in Richmond following a reoccurring illness. Judith was born on August 25, 1917, Weimar to Adolph D. and Mary (Skrovan) Manofsky. She grew up in Weimar, Jourdanton, and El Campo. Because Victor served as a deputy for Buckshot Lane, they moved to Wharton and built a house on a corner in Pecan Acres. She had a large garden and produced a massive amount of vegetables she gave away and canned. She sewed shirts, pants, dresses, suits, and curtains with and without patterns. The end results always looked professional. She crocheted bedspreads, doilies, and table clothes plus she did quilting. In addition, she was a Jack of All Trades. She could do plumbing and carpenter work, wire anything, paint an entire house and garage, do the yard work in addition to cooking tasty meals. Her cookies, pies and cakes would melt your mouth. She always had enough food to feed unexpected guests at dinner time. She loved picking pecans from the trees planted around the property. A squirrel had better not think about taking any of her pecans she shelled and put them in the freezer to use in baking. Judith really did love watching her western movies on TV. John Wayne movies were a big hit with her but her favorite thing to do was to mow the lawn on her Snapper riding lawn mower. Even when she became ill, she still wanted to get on her Snapper and mow. She always said she wanted to be buried sitting on her Snapper mower. Judith is survived by her daughter, Dr. Carol Ann Sassin, and a sister, Dorothy Marr. She is preceded in death by siblings: Arnold Manofsky and wife (Marie Sliva Manofsky), Oscar Leary (Larry) Manofsky, Calvin Manofsky, Glen E. Manofsky, and Hedwick (Hattie) Manofsky Guess Powell. Judith was a member of Holy Family Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of Americas. Services will be at Holy Family Catholic Church, Wharton, Tx on Monday, March 5, 2018. Rosary is at 10:00 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Wharton Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
