Julius John “Jake” Kalina, Jr. Julius “Jake” Kalina, Jr., 90, of Wharton, Texas passed away on Monday, November 12, 2018 at a Wharton nursing center. He was born in Kovar, Texas near Smithville on February 18, 1928 to the late Julius Emil and Emily Hofferek Kalina. Jake attended school in Kovar and Smithville. He married Pauline Sabrsula on November 11, 1947 in Hungerford. They enjoyed 67 years together before she preceded him in death on February 4, 2015. Jake loved farming, being outside, fishing when able, gardening, spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren, cracking and shelling pecans. He was a faithful member of the Abell Street Church of Christ for many years. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wilbert Kalina, and infant brothers, Emil and William. Jake is survived by his son, Larry Kalina and wife, Diane of Wharton, daughters, Geraldine Jochec and husband, August of East Bernard, Patsy Womack and husband, Larry of Wharton and Peggy Geisler and husband, Carl of Columbus, sisters, Ruth Sabrsula of Wharton and Marie Clanton of Houston, grandchildren, Kristi Hobbs, Sonny Tydlacka, Clint Kalina, Sarah Barker, Dustin Braden, and Wesley Braden, great grandchildren, Jake, Luke, Blake and Karis Tydlacka, Kennedy and Kenzie Hobbs, Taylor, Reagan and Chance Kalina, Paige and Bailey Davis, Brinley, Tyson, and Presley Barker. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 15, 2018 after 5 pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 10 am at Wharton Funeral Home with Sonny Tydlacka officiating. Pallbearers will be Clint Kalina, Dustin Braden, Wesley Braden, Chad Hobbs, Jason Barker, and Kenneth Sabrsula. Burial will be held in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WCJC Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels program or the Abell Street Church of Christ. Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
