Lessie B Kocurek passed into the arms of the Lord on December 30, 2020 at  Country Assisted Living in Danevang, TX.  She was born October 18, 1924  in Weeks, AR to the late Stella & Charlie Sherrill.  She was 96 years young.

Lessie along with her loving husband of 51 years, Stanley, was a longtime resident of Pledger, TX.  After he became bedridden she took care of him at home for three years until his passing in 1997. She stayed in Pledger for 14 more years before moving to Wharton in 2011.  Lessie is fondly remembered for always tending to her yard, picking up sticks, raking leaves and even cutting the grass well into her 90’s!

Lessie and Stanley enjoyed fishing as much as possible.  She spent many hours washing oysters and cleaning shrimp at her kitchen sink.   She also loved to quilt and embroider but, what she loved most was taking care of her daughter, Donna with downs syndrome.  In addition to her parents and her husband Stanley, she was predeceased by her daughter Donna and her siblings Wilma Thurmund, Charlene Kocurek, Lula Mae Sherrill, Verlie Sherrill, Harold Sherrill and Charles Sherrill.

Lessie is survived by her children, Joyce Salas and her husband, Paul of Bryan, TX and Stanley Ray Kocurek of Wharton; brother, James Sherrill of Pledger; grandchildren, Matthew Salas of Bryan and Jenny Salas of Franklin, and 6 great grandchildren. 

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday January 5, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Wharton.
