Linda Sopchak, age 76, of Wharton, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at a local hospital following a sudden illness. She was born in Fresno, California, on May 7, 1944 to the late Daniel R. and Margaret Jilek Michalec.
Linda was raised in Galena Park, Tx, and graduated from Furr High School. She married Felix Sopchak on October 6, 1962, in Rosenberg. She was the co-owner and operator (with her husband, Felix) of Burr Café for over 10 years before starting a 25-year career at Wharton ISD in 1988. Linda loved to cook and enjoyed sharing meals and deserts with family and friends. She was also an avid reader of books and could always be found with her Kindle. She was very active at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton where she served as an Extraordinary Eucharist Minister, and she was also a member of the Catholic Daughters.
Linda is survived by her husband of 58 years, Felix Sopchak of Wharton; daughter Rhonda Clayton and husband, David of Wharton, son Scott Sopchak and wife, Nikki of Granbury; siblings: Beverly Kinkead and husband, Mike of Channelview, Randy Michalec and wife, Darlene of Montgomery, Regina Tom and husband, Jimmy of Canyon Lake; grandchildren: Drew Clayton and his fiancé Chelsea Solis, Jessie Swindel and husband Strkyer, and Jamie King; great grandchildren: Nash Clayton, Bodhi Clayton and Emma Swindel; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton, starting at 9:00 am with a Catholic Daughters rosary at 10:30 am followed by Mass celebrated at 11 am with Father Samuel Appiassi. A Rite of burial and committal will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association 240 Augusta Drive, Suite 175, Houston Texas 77057-4989 or the Holy Family Catholic Daughters at P.O. Box 415, Wharton, TX 77488.
Funeral Services are under the directions of Wharton Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
