Lydia Garcia Diaz, 71, of El Campo, Texas passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019 at her home. She was born in Edna, Texas on November 15, 1947, a daughter of the late John C. Garcia and Beva Garza Garcia. Lydia was raised in the Edna area. She was well known as a gifted seamstress. She married Miguel Diaz Jr. in Edna, Tx and he preceded her in death on April 5, 1994. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister: Mary Jane “Janie” Garcia, brothers: Robert “Bobby” Garcia, Danny Garcia and Sister: Cynthia Garcia. Lydia is survived by her daughter, Marcy Diaz of Clute, Tx; sons: Mario Anthony Diaz and wife, Mary of Rosenberg, TX and Russell Diaz and wife, Marly of Wharton; niece, Cindy Garcia, whom Lydia raised and loved as a daughter; sisters: Guadalupe “Lupe” Vasquez and husband, Ruben, Melba Rodriguez and husband, Servando, Brenda Silvas and husband Gilbert Silvas, Jerry Garcia; brothers: Juan Daniel “Danny” Garcia, Michael Cavazos and Frank Garza, whom Lydia loved as a brother; grandchildren: Robert Mata III, Brianna Mata and John Reyna; Michelle Mata; Mario A. Diaz, Jr., Marco Adrian Diaz, Carissa Diaz, Christopher Diaz and wife, Alondra, Jordan Diaz and Xavier Diaz; step-grandchildren: Michelle Martinez and Mandy Martinez; great grandchildren: Christopher Diaz, Jr., Theodore Reyna, and Odelia Reyna and numerous nieces, nephews, and numerous friends and extended family. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 7 after 5pm at Wharton Funeral Home with a parish rosary recited at 7pm by Deacon David Valdez. The Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will be celebrated by Father Antonio Perez on Friday, March 8, 2019 at 11 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic. Following cremation, she will be buried at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Serving as pallbearers will be: Robert Mata, Christopher “Bubba” Diaz, Mario Anthony Diaz, Jr., Marco Adrian Diaz, Xavier Diaz, Alonzo Kane Garza, Frank Garza, Jr. Funeral services under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
