Lynne Allen, age 54, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, May 14th. Lynne was born to Gelee and Wayne Allen on March 2, 1970 in Weslaco, Texas
Lynne was one of God’s most precious angels. She is best remembered for loving a party, particularly her own birthday and any family gathering. If the family had a dollar for every time Lynne shared the date and place of her birth, there would be enough money to buy her every Barbie and American Girl doll in the world. Oh yes, she loved dolls and had many of them.
Lynne’s journey through life was marked by her deep love for family and others. She was a 1992 graduate of Wharton High School and moved into her first group home at Sunset House in March of 1991. Lynne was known by and thought of fondly by so many in Wharton. She began her working life busing tables at McDonald’s and later at Hinze’s BBQ where she worked for 30 years. One favorite memory was Lynne’s weekly commitment to tithe her “busing” tip money to the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed church and singing a joyful noise to the Lord. In addition to busing tables, Lynne volunteered at Wharton Head Start and Rags to Riches Resale for many years.
Lynne’s final days were spent at the Maude group home where she was loved well and taken care of so beautifully. The Allen family will be forever grateful to all who took care of Lynne. Those who work in the group home and hospice industries are angels themselves. What a calling! The entire Allen family thanks you all from the bottom of our hearts!
Lynne is survived by her parents, Gelee and Wayne Allen; her sister, Barbara (Jamie) Lechler; her brother, Mark (Whitney) Allen, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Lynne’s second oldest sister, Genye Allen preceded Lynne in death on January 15, 1996.
A time for visitation will take place at the Wharton Funeral Home located at 515 E. Boling Hwy. on Thursday, May 16th from 5-7 PM, and Lynne’s celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Wharton, TX, located at 507 Fulton St. on Friday, May 17th at 11 AM.
