Obituary – Mark Grudziecki
QUOTE: One is never closer to God than in the garden.
Mark Steven Grudziecki, 62, passed away August 12, 2019 at SPJST Nursing Home in Needville, TX. He was born April 13, 1957, to John and Lucille Krolczyk Grudziecki.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Loretta Grudziecki, and brother-in-law, Bill Gormley. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Brenner (Frank) of Weimar, TX, Jeanie Gormley of Bay City, TX, and Diane Ferguson (Brad) of Ingram, TX; his brothers, John Christopher Grudziecki (Mary Ann) of Rosenberg, TX, Eugene Grudziecki (Joan) of Rosenberg, TX, and Phil Grudziecki (Laura) of Needville, TX; nieces and nephews; aunt, Cecelia Grudziecke of Rosenberg, TX; uncle and aunt, Mike and Dorothy Grudziecki of Richmond, TX.
Mark was raised in Rosenberg, TX. He graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School and worked at Brochsteins Inc. in Houston, TX with his father. He was a life-long member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, testimony to his true faith in God. His bedroom was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus when he was a child. Mark was a gentle man who enjoyed spending time with his siblings and their families. He was a special son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin. Gardening was his passion and he enjoyed the fruits of his labor. He was considered a master gardener by all who knew him. Mark loved to fish and hunt. He greatly enjoyed watching and talking about sports teams, particularly the Longhorns, the Texans and the Astros. We will miss those conversations. He was a great fan of classic western movies and his hero was John Wayne.
While living at Cambridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Mark met the love of his life, Diana Garcia. They enjoyed many happy moments together, playing games and acting in play productions, attending parties, going to movies, shopping and going out to eat, to name a few.
Mark was given new life in 1983 when his brother, Phil, became a kidney donor to him, and again in 2012, when his sister, Diane, also became a kidney donor to him. Those two transplants gave Mark an unbelievable, remarkable number of
years of life that stunned us all, even his doctors at Memorial Hermann, for which we will always be grateful.
Mark’s brother, Phil, provided guardianship to him. He and his wife, Laura, and their children, Justin and Lori, have given love and support to Mark in ways too numerous to count. When Phil rented a limousine and took his family to a Texans game, Mark said it was the best Christmas he ever had.
Our deepest gratitude is meaningfully extended to the staff of the ninth floor transplant unit at Memorial Hermann. The loving care given Mark for 37 years by Dr. Bynon, Dr. Dar, Dr. DeGolivine, Dr. Edwards, Dr. Hall, Dr. Kahan, Dr. Katz, Dr. Pai, Dr. Shu and Dr. VanBuren at Memorial Hermann is gratefully acknowledged.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to SPJST Nursing Home and Resolutions Hospice.
