Mary “Lillie” Lydia Alvarado, 79, a cherished member of her community, passed away on October 31, 2024, in Victoria Texas. Lillie was born on January 22, 1945, in New Gulf to the late Lorenzo Mireles and Felicitas Castillo. 

Lillie was a vibrant soul who found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from spending time with her beloved grandkids to dancing the night away at social gatherings. Her passion for caring for others extended beyond her family, as she dedicated countless hours teaching CCD at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Boling and serving as a Eucharistic minister. She was also a proud member of the Catholic Daughters of America, finding solace and purpose in her faith community. 

Known for her skillful hands in sewing and her love for Mexican bingo, Lillie's presence brightened any room she entered. Her warm smile and compassionate heart touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred "Freddie" Alvarado; sisters, Mary Lopez and Julia Mireles; brothers, John Mireles, Joe Mireles, Pedro “Pete” Mireles.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be remembered by her daughters, Cynthia Simpson and husband James Scott Simpson of Boling, Tammy Ondruch and husband, Duane of Wharton, and Jessica Rountree and husband, Kirk of Lolita; grandchildren, Colby Simpson, Logan Simpson, Cade Simpson, Kelsey Welch and husband, Kipp, Lance Kocian, Maryssa Dunagan and husband, Josh, Clayton Rountree, Camryn Rountree, and Taryn Rountree; great grandchildren, Aria Dunagan, Axton Dunagan and Kooper Welch and sisters Laura Soliz and husband, Dee and Margaret Sanchez and husband, Juan; brothers, Pablo Mireles and wife, Terry, Lorenzo Mireles and wife, Elva, Richard Mireles, and Jesse Mireles and wife, Rosalinda. Along with numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, starting a 5 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 6 p.m. at Wharton Funeral Home. A Funeral mass will be Celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church on November 4, 2024, at 11:00 am with Father Charles Dwomoh officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Simpson, Cade Simpson, Kirk Rountree, Clayton Rountree, Duane Ondruch, Colby Simpson, Lance Kocian and Scott Kocian. Honorary Pallbearers are Phillip Garman, Josh Dunagan and Kipp Welch.

Lillie's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
