Mary Mejorado
Mary Mejorado, known as Maggie to her friends and Nonnie to many, 65, of Wharton, Texas, passed away in a Wharton hospital on Friday, August 28, 2021 following a long battle with a cardiac condition. She was born on April 13, 1956 in Wharton to Eva Gomez Tijerina and the late Marcos Tijerina.
Maggie was raised in El Campo and graduated from El Campo High School as a proud Ricebird. She attended college to pursue a career in the medical field. She enjoyed her job as a paramedic with the City of Wharton EMS and was also the program director for Wharton County Junior College EMS. She was a devout member of College Heights Baptist Church in Wharton. Maggie enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, helping with all church functions, watching Houston Astros and Houston Texans and loved attending her grandchildrens’ functions. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her uncles, Secundino “Dino” Alameda, Piadoso “Peter” Alameda, Jose “Joe” Almeda, David Alameda and her aunt Linda Ramirez.
Maggie is survived by her mother, Eva Gomez Tijerina, daughters, Miranda Garza and husband, Justin, Melinda Mejorado and wife, Brandice, Bianca Ortiz and husband, Luis, brothers Marc Tijerina and wife, Stephanie, Terry Tijerina and wife, Veronica, sister, Becki Stieb and husband, Paul, grandchildren, Mackenzie, Sabin, Bruce and Justin Garza, Clayton McKelvy, Layla and Kendele Newby, Xavier and Isaish Ortiz,, Diamond and Jazzlyn Sedillo and Hailey Guerra, great grandchildren, Hunter, Paige and Charlotte Garza, Bella Rose Newby
Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, September 1 at the College Heights Baptist Church in Wharton at 10 am.
