Olifidio Mancha Esquivel

Olifidio Esquivel, 93, of Wharton, passed away on Friday, July 9, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 2, 1928 in Gulf Texas, to the late Joseph Juan and Dolores Mancha Esquivel.
He attended school in Gulf. He served our country honorably in the United States Army. In 1961 he married Irene Mata in Wharton at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on December 6, 2009. Olifidio worked as a merchant marine in the shipping industry for many years as a chief stewart. He enjoyed fishing, and cooking for friends and family. He was a long-time member of the Wharton American Legion Post 87. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters Odilia Gomez, Ortencia Campos and Odilona E. Vannest, brother, Oscar Esquivel, Sr. and a great grandchild,
He is survived by his sons, Bo Esquivel and Joe Esquivel and wife, Michele, daughter, Mary Esther Esquivel, grandchildren, Olifidio J Esquivel, Anthony Louis Gonzales, Tiffanie Christine Esquivel, Joe Esquivel, Jr., and Elania Esquivel, great grandchildren, Nolan Esquivel, Kaiden Gonzales, Eli Joe Gonzales, Nathan Gonzales, Sophia Irene Esquivel, Aubrey Esquivel, Santana Esquivel Catalaya Esquivel and Kai Allen III.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 after 5 pm with a parish rosary recited at 7pm. at Wharton Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Military honors will be performed by members of the Wharton American Legion Post 87 and VFW post 4474. Serving as pallbearers are O.J. Esquivel, Anthony Gonzales, Joe Esquivel, Jr., Omar Diaz, Orlando Diaz, Oran Diaz, David Mata, Jr. and Joe Justin Mata.
