O. H. Ullmann, Jr., 86, of Wharton, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land, Texas. He was born on May 17, 1938, in Wharton, Texas to the late Oswald and Helen Ullmann, Sr.
O.H. was raised in Wharton and graduated from Wharton High School. He later attended Sam Houston State University where he played trumpet in the band. After graduating college, O.H. served our country in the United States Air Force, and the Texas Air National Guard. O.H. met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Strunk, in 1958 and married her on December 28, 1963; They enjoyed 61 years together.
O.H. worked as an accountant for many years before serving as Vice-President for Coastal States Gas Producing Company. Later in his professional career, O.H. worked for AAL Insurance, and Wharton County Teachers Credit Union, before retiring for a third and final time.
O.H. enjoyed a good round of golf, shelling pecans, growing veggies in his super-sized garden, playing trumpet for the folks at Elmcroft and Wharton Nursing and Rehab, and serving as an Elder at St. John’s Lutheran Church, while also singing in the choir. O.H. will be remembered as a loving and caring Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather whose purpose in life was to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and never leave anyone who crossed his path a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Vernon and Ronald Ullmann. O.H. is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Ullmann of Wharton, daughter, Karen Elizabeth Braun of Houston, son, Craig Allen Ullmann of Wharton, daughter-in-law Debra Ullmann of Wharton, sister, Virginia Sue Greenwood of Euliss, grandchildren, Loren Wright and husband, Stratton, Megan Braun, Madison Braun, Katie Ullmann, Carson Ullmann, Michael Hasenpflug and wife, Bailee, Matthew Hasenpflug and Mitchell Hasenpflug, and great grandchildren, Truett and Beckett Wright.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 5-8pm at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wharton. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
