Paula Ferrel Alcalar March 2, 1934 – October 21, 2023 Paula Ferrel Alcalar, 89, of Wharton passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at a Richmond hospital following a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 2, 1934 in Kendleton, Texas to the late Jesus and Ramona Molina Ferrel. Paula was raised in Hungerford and attended Hungerford schools. She married Simon Alcalar on December 3, 1961 in Wharton, Texas. Paula worked as a custodian for Boling ISD for many years. She loved her family time, especially cooking for her family, watching her novella, listening to Augustine Ramirez, playing dominoes, collecting dolls, and spoiling her furbabies, especially Spotty. She was honored to be the first homecoming Queen at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church Homecoming in 1946. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Yshmal Rodriguez, and step-son, Simon Alcalar, sister, Francis Merlos and brothers, Jessie, Raymond and Manuel Ferrel. Paula was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and even great great grandmother. She will be missed by her husband, Simon Alcalar of 61 years, children, Samuel Rodriguez and wife, Mary Helen, Gloria Garza and husband, Darryl, Richard Alcalar, Simon Alcalar, Jr., Jessie Purcell and husband, Larry Purcell, Sylvia Alcalar, John Alcalar and wife, Jeanie, Freddie Alcalar, Louis Marshall, and Rosemary Arismendez and husband, Joe, sisters, Fay Cruz, Judy Ferrel, Carmen Mendez, Josephine Rodriguez and Trinidad Longoria, brothers, Bennie Ferrel, Larry Ferrel, Ramon Ferrel, and Manuel Ferrel, 37 grandchildren, 87 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 after 6 pm with a rosary recited at 7pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will be held on Wednesday, October 25,
