Priscilla Ann Shimek was born on May 18, 1953 to Martha Krenek Welfel and Albert Welfel in Wharton, Texas. She met her Heavenly Father on September 16, 2019. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Welfel; sister, Peggy Welfel; father- and mother-in-law, Jerome Shimek Sr. and Leona Shimek; and sister-in-law, Carol Shimek. Pris attended Holy Family Catholic School and then graduated from Wharton High School in 1971. She received her associate’s degree from Wharton County Junior College and then worked for the Texas Department of Child Protective Services, retiring after 25 years of service. Priscilla married the love of her life, Robert Lee Shimek, on May 3, 1975. They had two daughters: Amy and Jill. Priscilla was better known to her friends and family as Pris, Mom to her girls, Nana to her grandbabies, and Aunt Pris to her nieces and nephews. From the time she was a little girl, she loved fishing with her parents and sister. For many recent years, sitting at the bay with her sister Jane was one of her happy places. They would give daily fishing reports and always send pics of the fish they caught—no matter how big or small. She loved checking on the cows with Bob and naming the calves with him and her grandchildren. She deeply enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She loved reading to them, playing endless games of Candyland and Go Fish, and baking cookies with them. She was an amazing “cooker”, as her little ones said. Her family and friends always loved when she would cook and bake for them. She could make something out of anything and it was always delicious! She also enjoyed playing Texas Hold’em with Bob and their poker friends. She would spend afternoons that turned into late nights playing cards and dominoes with her family. The “best 3 out of 5 games” always turned into the “best 5 out of 7 games” or more. Pris will be greatly missed. Her contagious smile and the love she had for family and friends will never be forgotten. Pris is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Shimek; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and James Tabor; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Jason Otto; her grandchildren, Abby and Kaitley Tabor and Avery and Landon Otto; her mother, Martha Welfel; and sister, Jane Lane.
