Roy Christopher Mendiola
Roy Christopher “Chris” Mendiola, 26, of Wharton, Texas, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his parents home. He was born December 9, 1992 in Wharton Texas to Roy Mendiola Jr. and Tanya Renee Valdez.
Chris was raised in Wharton and attended Wharton schools. He loved playing baseball, playing at many levels, Little league, Wharton Babe Ruth, The Texas Titans out of Lake Jackson and the Wharton Vipors. One of his fondest memories came when he was 13 years old and was able to play in the Triple Crown World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. He also talked vividly about when the family traveled to Walt Disney World for Christmas Vacation in 2015. Chris worked as a millwright for several years. His most cherished time was spent with his young children. He loved playing with them every chance he got. Chris was also an avid H-Town sports team supporter and regularly cheered on his Astros, Texans and Rockets. He was raised in the Catholic faith where he received all his Holy Sacraments, but on September 25, 2016, he was baptized at Rescue Church in Wharton, Texas as a Christian. Chris was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raul Mendiola, great grandfather Robert Campos, great grandparnets Mr. & Mrs. Jasper Valdez and Mr. & Mrs. John Joe Valdez, Sr.
Chris was a loving father to his daughters, Krislynn Faith Mendiola (age 8), Madilynn Elizabeth Mendiola (age 4) and Lovelynn Flavey Garcia Mendiola (age 1 ½ Month) and son, Jeremiah Rene Mendiola (age 6), parents, Tanya and Roy Mendiola, Jr., grandparents, Guadalupe Valdez (Karla Bravo), Mary Ann Valdez and Diane Mendiola, great grandmother, Aurora Campos, sister, Madison Nycole Mendiola, brother, Ryan Michael Mendiola, aunts and uncles, Tina Garza and Thomas Tovar, Bruce Mendiola and wife, Tracy, Scott Mendiola and wife, Angela, Duran Mendiola and wife, Mary, Theresa Campos-Wells and husband Michael, Amber Campos, George Campos and Robert Campos, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening, January 31, 2019 after 5pm at the Chapel of Wharton Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, Viewing 9-9:30am Services at 10am at Rescue Church in Wharton. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Wells, Luther Lathon, Ken Lowery, Jr., Dustin Ortiz, Aaron Horta, Craig Jaquez, Ryan Wuthrich and Jonathan Perez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bruce Mendiola, Scott Mendiola, Duran Mendiola, Scott Mendiola, Jr., Fabian Cantu, Ryan Mendiola, Jaden Compian, Joshua Wells, Seth Campos, Chase Denison, Roger Cox, Jr., Johnnie Orta, Jr. and all his Wharton Vipors Baseball Brothers.
