Stanley Albert Konvicka, 86, of Wharton, TX passed away on August 30, 2023 in a Houston hospital. He was born on July 27, 1937, in Wharton to the late Frank and Mary Malek Konvicka. Stanley was raised in the Wharton area and attended school in Wharton. He served our country honorably in the United States Army and was a farmer all his life. On November 27, 1963, he married Bessie Merta in Taiton, TX. They celebrated 59 years together and were blessed with eight children. Stanley enjoyed meeting his friends in the mornings at the coffee shop (the office) and was known as a first-class sauerkraut and wine maker. He loved being outdoors and could often be found on his tractor or feeding and checking on his cattle. Stanley loved to try his luck in Louisiana occasionally and on scratch-offs almost daily. He loved to fish the Colorado River and Matagorda. The week-long fishing trip he took with his sons, other family members and friends, to Choke Canyon State Park, was an annual highlight, and a source of hilarious stories, inside jokes, and treasured memories. Many a fisherman came to him to get their bait and swap fishing stories. Stanley had a big garden and was always willing to share with others, as he and Bessie sold their many goods at the Farmer’s Market in Wharton. Stanley always had a joke to tell, and many were told multiple times. He was an usher at Holy Family Catholic Church and the Lenten fish fry’s will not be the same without him as the hushpuppy fryer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Ben, and Ed Konvicka, brother - in-law Daniel Brod and sisters-in-law Elsie and Ruby Konvicka.
