Van Edward O’Quinn Van O’Quinn passed away July 11. He was born July 3, 1942 in Wharton, Texas to the late Loyce and Herbert O’Quinn. He graduated from Liberty High School and Sam Houston State University with a degree in Ag Tech. He considered his high school graduating class, church and Wharton community to be part of his family and loved the get togethers where he was known as Van Ed. Van Ed worked at Texas Gulf Sulphur as a process operator for 25 years. When we lost Van we lost a vast knowledge about so many things. There was not a thing he didn’t know about plants, animals and almost anything to do with nature. If he didn’t know it he would grab that iPad, Google it, and report back to you. The information was usually accompanied with a joke. Van Ed leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Pamela O’Quinn; son Jim O’Quinn and his wife, Carlota, of Austin; daughter Babette Lovell and her husband, Monty, of Rosenberg; sister Lou Ella Bradley; brother Bubba O’Quinn and his wife, Betty Ruth, of College Station; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on July 14 at 2pm at the Abell Street Church of Christ. Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home. Condolences may be left at whartonfuneralhome.com.
