Victor James Duke

Victor James Duke   Victor James Duke, 73, of Lane City, passed away on Sunday February 17, 2019 at his residence following a sudden illness.  He was born on August 15, 1945, in Victoria, Texas to the late Edwin Fox and Velma Daisy Goates Duke.   Victor was raised in Lane City and graduated from Wharton High School. In March of 1966, he proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Boston, defending our Country and ground troups during the Vietnam War, earning his honorable discharge and the Silver Star on December 2, 1969. Victor worked for many years at the Dow chemical plants and lately worked as the manager of the Shell Station in Boling. He enjoyed playing poker with friends and family, watching the Cowboys, and trying his luck with the slot machines. During his time in the Navy, he developed a passion for cooking and enjoyed cooking for friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Palmer Duke, nieces Shana Lynn Duke, Brittany Koym and nephew John B Duke, Jr.   He is loved and will be missed by his sisters, Carol Koym and husband, Elton of Canton, TX, Katy Cathey and husband, Bobby of Spring, brothers, Edwin Duke, Jr. and wife, Evonne of Seguin, John B Duke, Sr. and wife, Wanda Faye of Goliad, Robert L. Duke, Sr. and wife, Shirley of Lane City, Lowell (Boogie) Duke of Canton, David L. Duke and wife, Delores of Conroe, Henry (Frankie) Duke and Ken of Lockhart, 23 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews.   Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Wharton Funeral Home in Wharton at 10 am with with Rev.
